Biography

Chen Shiyuan (born 1985) turned professional in Taiwan in 2000 and was the island's leading player for the better part of two decades before the current generation emerged.

He has won Taiwan's Tianyuan, Guoshou and Wangzuo titles many times over and represented Taiwan in numerous Asian Games, world team events and pair events.

In 2015 he beat Japanese legends Yoda Norimoto and Kobayashi Koichi at the Jinlongcheng Cup.

Chen took Black against Yoda Norimoto, a former Meijin and one of Japan's greatest players of the 1990s and 2000s, and won by 7.5 points.

Yoda Norimoto was ahead, and Chen was at 19% when he played J13 on move 83. White's R9 on move 84 was the slip: Chen's winrate rose to 48% and the game was open again. The move for Yoda was O18 at the top, which only about 9% of 9-dan players find. Chen went on to win by 7.5 points.
