Biography

Fujisawa Rina (born 1998) turned professional in 2010 at age eleven, then the youngest in Japanese history. She is the granddaughter of Fujisawa Hideyuki, the legendary Kisei.

She has held every major Japanese women's title, including the Female Honinbo, Female Meijin and Female Kisei, many of them multiple times, and has been Japan's top-ranked woman for most of the last decade.

In 2023 she reached the final of the 6th Wu Qingyuan Cup, the women's world championship, beating Zhou Hongyu in the semifinal before losing to Choi Jeong.

Fujisawa took Black against Zhou Hongyu, then China's top-ranked woman, and won by resignation to become the first Japanese player to reach a Wu Qingyuan Cup final.

Fujisawa was already ahead at 75% when she played L4 on move 133. Zhou Hongyu's N2 on move 134 removed the last doubt, up to 97%. K2 was the better answer, and about 36% of 9-dan players find it, but the game had already turned Fujisawa's way. She became the first Japanese player to reach a Wu Qingyuan Cup final.
