Biography

Hei Jiajia, also known as Joanne Missingham (born 1994), was born in Australia to a Taiwanese mother and Australian father and turned professional in Taiwan in 2008. She reached 7-dan, the highest rank of any woman in Taiwan.

She has won Taiwan's women's titles and represented Taiwan at the 2010 Asian Games, and has long been the best-known Go personality in Taiwan, appearing widely in media, film and advertising.

In 2022 she reached the quarterfinal of the 5th Wu Qingyuan Cup women's world championship, beating Rui Naiwei and Yu Zhiying on the way.

Hei took White against Yu Zhiying, the world's top-ranked woman for most of the previous decade, and won by 3.5 points to reach the quarterfinal of the women's world championship.

Yu Zhiying, the world's top woman for years, was comfortably ahead, and Hei was at 28% when she played H7 on move 136. Black's H9 on move 137 turned the game on its head: Hei's winrate jumped to 82%. H5 was the answer, a fairly natural move that about 43% of 9-dan players choose, and Yu did not. Hei won by 3.5 points.
