Biography

Lin Junyan (born 1997) turned professional in Taiwan in 2011 and has been in the island's top group for over a decade, winning domestic titles including the Haifeng Cup and Zhonghuan Cup.

He represented Taiwan at the 2023 Asian Games in both the individual and team events.

His best-known international result came at the 20th LG Cup in 2015, when at seventeen he beat Lee Changho in the round of 32.

Seventeen-year-old Lin took Black against Lee Changho, the greatest player of the previous two decades, and won by resignation in the LG Cup main draw.

Lee Changho was winning comfortably with fewer than fifteen moves to go, and Lin was at 18% when he played T13 on the edge on move 225. White's T9 on move 226 threw the game away: Lin's winrate leapt to 91%. Q12 would have kept the win, a move about 27% of 9-dan players find. A seventeen-year-old had beaten the Stone Buddha.
