Biography

Xu Jiayang (born 1999) turned professional in 2012 and has risen steadily to become the world's number two, the highest-rated Chinese player of 2026.

He won the Chinese National Champion title in 2025 and the 11th Lanke Cup Chinese Championship in 2026, and has become a fixture of China's Nongshim Cup and world championship line-ups.

In 2025 he beat Shin Jinseo at the inaugural Guksu Mountains World Championship and reached the quarterfinal of the 10th Ing Cup with a half-point win over Ichiriki Ryo.

Xu took White against world number one Shin Jinseo and won by resignation, one of the results that marked his arrival in the world's top three.

Shin Jinseo was slightly ahead, and Xu was at 40% when he played N8 on move 154. Black's M10 on move 155 was the mistake, and Xu's winrate jumped to 85%. N11, defending first, was the move, one that 19% of 9-dan players find. Xu won by resignation, one of the results that carried him into the world's top three.
