Biography

Yang Dingxin (born October 19, 1998, in Zhengzhou, Henan) is a Chinese 9-dan who entered the professional ranks in July 2008 at 9 years and 9 months old, breaking the record for the youngest professional Go player in Chinese history. In 2012 he won the 12th Ricoh Cup at 13 years and 6 months, breaking another record for the youngest player to win a Chinese professional tournament.

His career-defining title came at the 23rd LG Cup in February 2019, where he defeated fellow Chinese player Shi Yue 2-1 in an all-Chinese final to claim his first world major championship, earning his promotion to 9-dan. He followed it up with seven consecutive wins for China in the 21st Nongshim Cup (2019-2020), and reached the 26th LG Cup final in 2022 where he lost 0-2 to Shin Jinseo.

Yang Dingxin's first international major. He defeated Shi Yue 2–1 to win the 23rd LG Cup and earn promotion to 9-dan.

Yang had Shi Yue on the back foot from the start, 74% after his S12 on move 53. White's P5 on move 54 lifted Yang to 87%. The local answer at Q18 was the move, and most strong players see it: 61% of 9-dan players choose it. Shi Yue never found a way back.
