About PlayGo.gg: Features, Pricing and Devices
PlayGo.gg is a free website and app for playing Go, the board game also called Baduk in Korea and Weiqi in China. You can play people or AI, learn with lessons and puzzles, get an AI review of your games and watch professional matches. It runs in any web browser and on iOS and Android.
PlayGo.gg aims to be for Go what Chess.com is for chess and Duolingo is for languages. Alongside online play it has an AI coach, a bite-sized beginner course, daily quests, streaks, a reward track and collectible board and stone skins, features most Go servers do not offer.
What you can do on PlayGo.gg
Play Go online against people at your level with free matchmaking, ranked or casual, on 9x9, 13x13 or 19x19 boards. Invite a friend to a private game or join an online tournament.
Play against 39 AI bots from 18 kyu to 10 dan, with handicap and komi settings.
Learn with a beginner course, interactive lessons ordered by rank, daily Go puzzles (tsumego) graded by difficulty, and Puzzle Run, a timed puzzle challenge with leaderboards.
Watch live professional matches with an AI win rate, replay professional game records, and follow world pro rankings.
AI coach and game analysis
After a game, the AI coach reviews it with you. It finds the moves that cost you the most points, shows a better move and explains why in plain language. Analysis runs on KataGo, the strongest open-source Go engine.
Games played elsewhere can be uploaded as SGF files and analyzed the same way.
A Duolingo-style course for beginners
The beginner course teaches Go in five-minute lessons, the way Duolingo teaches a language. Each lesson is a short explanation followed by moves you play on the board yourself, with no video. Lessons follow a path of units with treasure chests along the way, hearts limit how many mistakes you can make, and stronger players can pass a short test to jump ahead.
Daily quests, streaks and the reward track
Every day you get three quests, such as playing a game, solving puzzles or reviewing a game. Quests reset at midnight in your own time zone, and you can swap one quest a day for a different one.
Games, puzzles, lessons and quests earn XP on the reward track, an 18-level track of rewards that include emotes, Lumina and skins. The free track ends with the Polar Pals stone set. An optional premium pass unlocks extra rewards, and bonus levels after level 18 keep paying out Lumina.
A daily streak counts every day you play, solve or study. Streak freezes protect your streak on a day you miss.
Board and stone skins
Skins change how the board and stones look in your games, and your opponent sees your stones too. Themed sets pair an illustrated board with matching stones, such as Starry Sky, Forest Glade and Peach Blossom, and single boards and stone sets are also available. Skins you own are kept in your Collection.
PlayGo has two currencies. Lumina is earned for free by playing, from quests and from the reward track. PG Points are bought. Lumina can rent a skin set for three days for 400 Lumina, once per set, and buys streak freezes. PG Points buy skins to keep and the premium pass.
