Taiwan-born title holder in Japan

Biography

Hsu Chia Yuan (born 1997) was born in Taiwan and became a Nihon Ki-in professional in 2013. He announced himself in 2018 by sweeping Iyama Yuta 3-0 to win the Gosei, his first major title.

He has since added the Judan and become one of the handful of players who regularly take titles from the Iyama, Ichiriki and Shibano trio.

He plays for Japan in the Nongshim Cup and has a strong record in world championship main draws, including a win over Dang Yifei at the 9th Ing Cup.

Hsu took Black against Dang Yifei, a former MLily Cup world champion, and won by resignation to advance at the Ing Cup, the most prestigious of the world championships.

Hsu was ahead at 70% when he played J8 on move 77. Dang Yifei's F5 on move 78 ended the game as a contest, Hsu rising to 96%. The only resource for White was J7, and barely 1% of 9-dan players see it. Hsu won by resignation.
