Biography

Shin Minjun (born 1999) turned professional in 2012 and grew up alongside Shin Jinseo as one of the two young stars of Korean Go. He has been a fixture of Korea's national team and a mainstay of the Korean Baduk League for a decade.

His first world title came at the 13th Chunlan Cup in 2020, where he beat Tang Weixing in the final. In January 2026 he added the 30th LG Cup, coming back from a game-one loss to defeat Ichiriki Ryo 2-1.

He also won gold with the Korean men's team at the 2022 Asian Games and took the 31st GS Caltex Cup in 2026, beating Park Junghwan in the final.

Down 0-1 after the opening game, Shin Minjun levelled the series the next day and then closed it out with this win by resignation as White. It gave him his second world title and denied Ichiriki Ryo, the reigning Ing Cup champion, a second major.

Ichiriki Ryo led the deciding game for a long stretch, and Shin was down to 19% when he played D11 on move 76. Black's F10 on move 77 gave Shin his opening: his winrate climbed to 44%, and he ground the rest out. The steadier D10 was there for the taking, a move half of 9-dan players find.
